Prayuth Chan-ocha |
BANGKOK, 7 January 2013 (NNT) - Army Chief General Prayuth
Chan-ocha is urging political activists not to view the military duty
on the overlapping territory between Thailand and Cambodia as
politically motivated.
General Prayuth said the government and the military have taken separate roles in dealing with the Preah Vihear case. The extents of their responsibilities are bound by a set of rules and the military is not doing any party a favor, he said.
According to him, the situation at the eastern border gives no sides an
advantage at the moment. Border police have recently joined the military
in keeping security along the border.
He clarified that there are no conflicts among different units in charge
of protecting national sovereignty because they are in constant
contacts. The Thai army is always in preparedness and, at the same time,
is making an effort to promote good relations with Cambodia.
Additionally, he explained that military preparedness does not mean wars
but it helps ready the country for any unprecedented scenarios.
